More Details

Have you been longing for uninterrupted time to write, create, and breathe? Within a safe setting of like-minded creatives from the queer community? Let me offer my home and skills for just that experience.

This retreat is set in Mulegé, Baja California Sur and offers a gentle reset—an opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities and reconnect with your creative self in a beautiful, relaxed setting of Mulegé and Sarah’s home and garden.

Set along the Río Mulegé and close to the Sea of Cortez, this retreat is designed to meet you exactly where you are. Whether you’re working on a specific writing project, exploring painting for the first time, or simply craving creative play, you’ll find both structure and freedom here. We will be mostly at Casa Azul, Sarah’s home with its beautiful garden offering a covered outdoor living area for us to write, paint, stretch, drink teas and talk about all things creative. A wonderfully welcoming home and studio a block from the river and la Huerta restaurant and campground. A place to walk around or even take the paddleboard up the river or just watch the tides and the birds.

Mornings are up to you and may begin with an optional yoga session or a quiet solo stroll through town, followed by coffee and dedicated creative time. You’ll have long stretches to write, paint, journal, or reflect—at your own pace and in your own way. Afternoons include optional workshops, creative prompts, and group conversations focused on exploration, inspiration, and gentle accountability. Evenings are for you to fill as you’d like – Sarah’s quite the introvert so she’ll be done by the end of each afternoon!

Participants are invited—but never required—to share their work for supportive feedback. Each guest receives a one-hour private creative consultation with the facilitator, which can focus on writing, creative process, publishing questions, or finding direction and confidence again.

This retreat is ideal if you:

  • Want to jumpstart or deepen a writing or creative practice
  • Feel creatively stuck, tired of perfectionism, or unsure where to begin
  • Crave inspiration, play, and a sense of creative community
  • Prefer a retreat that balances guidance with spacious free time
  • You enjoy walking everywhere – it’s a small village with no need for public transport
  • And you want to be around other creative queers

No experience is required—only curiosity and a desire to explore.

A Typical Day

  • Morning stroll or optional yoga
  • Coffee and light snacks
  • Dedicated writing or art time
  • Afternoon for continued creative time, workshops in small group sessions
  • Your evenings are your own to explore town and events
  • Dinner at a local restaurant or bar

Local lodging is very easy to find and affordable via Airbnb and other sites. We can help you find something suitable for your needs and budget. I also recommend Hotel Hacienda as it’s in the centre of town and makes everything walkable. You can find out more via Booking.com = https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/casas-rio-mulege.es.html

Local Events – one resource is this Facebook group: https://heymulege.com/events/

Local International Airport is in Loreto, BCS, about two hours south of Mulegé. With such a small group of three maximum, I will pick you all up on the same day and bring you back to Mulegé so let’s co-ordinate flights to Loreto to make it easy on you.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to apply. There is a bit of a vetting procedure in the sense that I want to make sure the small group dynamic fits well together. Sound good? Thanks.
