More Details

Have you been longing for uninterrupted time to write, create, and breathe?

This women-only writing, art, and yoga retreat in Mulegé, Baja California Sur offers a gentle reset—an opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities and reconnect with your creative self in a beautiful, relaxed setting.

Set along the Río Mulegé and close to the Sea of Cortez, this retreat is designed to meet you exactly where you are. Whether you’re working on a specific writing project, exploring painting for the first time, or simply craving creative play, you’ll find both structure and freedom here. We will be mostly at Casa Azul, Sarah’s home with a beautiful garden with a covered outdoor living area for us to write, paint, stretch, drink teas and talk about all things creative. A wonderfully welcoming home and studio a block from the river and la Huerta restaurant and campground.

Mornings may begin with an optional yoga session or a quiet stroll through town, followed by coffee and dedicated creative time. You’ll have long stretches to write, paint, journal, or reflect—at your own pace and in your own way. Afternoons include optional workshops, creative prompts, and group conversations focused on exploration, inspiration, and gentle accountability.

Participants are invited—but never required—to share their work for supportive feedback. Each guest receives a one-hour private creative consultation with the facilitator, which can focus on writing, creative process, publishing questions, or finding direction and confidence again.

Evenings are intentionally open. Enjoy dinner at a local seaside bistro, attend a community event, continue writing, or savor quiet time alone. This retreat encourages you to be as social or as solitary as you wish.

This retreat is ideal if you:

  • Want to jumpstart or deepen a writing or creative practice
  • Feel creatively stuck, tired of perfectionism, or unsure where to begin
  • Crave inspiration, play, and a sense of creative community
  • Prefer a retreat that balances guidance with spacious free time

No experience is required—only curiosity and a desire to explore.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Local lodging is very easy to find and affordable via Airbnb and other sites. One I recommend is my neighbor’s called Cactus Corner: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1398821240599553265 You will photos and pricing to see whether this is a good fit for you.

We can help you find something suitable for your needs and budget. I also recommend Hotel Hacienda as it’s in the centre of town and makes everything walkable. You can find out more via Booking.com = https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/casas-rio-mulege.es.html

FIRST DAY/ARRIVALS:

Once you arrive in Loreto, I’ll be on call in Mulege for you. I’ll give you my phone number and will make sure you are able to get here easily and without any stress or worries.

Given that you are staying in a variety of local hotels and airbnbs, we will arrange a common meeting spot in the afternoon, such as the nearest restaurant to either you or me. I’ll come find you so don’t worry about being lost. I won’t let that happen. I just want to make sure this retreat meets your needs and that you find places to stay that suit you and your budget as well as the types of food and restaurants you prefer.

MEALS:

Food prices range from $5 to $50 so you decide what and where you would like to eat. There are numerous grocery stores and even a local farm where we can pick up fresh (in season) vegetables at ridiculously low prices! Here is a link to some of the local restaurants with photos of menus. https://heymulege.com/restaurants/

EVENTS:

One great resource is this Facebook group: https://heymulege.com/events/

Local International Airport is in Loreto, BCS, about two hours south of Mulegé. From there, you can find car rentals or we can organize a local mini van driver to pick you up.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to apply. There is a bit of a vetting procedure in the sense that I want to make sure the small group dynamic fits well together. Sound good? Thanks.
