Glimpses: Loose Landscapes

A collection of small, expressive watercolour landscapes inspired by the expansive scenery of the American Southwest, where I spend much of my time. Mountains, distant horizons, wide-open skies and glimpses of water provide the starting points for these paintings.

Working loosely and intuitively, I use fluid washes, layers of colour and simplified shapes to explore the changing atmosphere of a place. I’m drawn to the shifting light, the movement of clouds, the contrast between land and sky, and the unexpected colours and patterns that emerge in the landscape.

These are not intended as detailed representations of particular places, but as fleeting impressions and personal interpretations. Each painting is an opportunity to experiment with watercolour, allowing the paint to move, mix and find its own direction.

Small in scale, these works are about capturing a sense of space, light and place in just a few marks and washes. Little glimpses of the wider world around us without trying to hard to define any one aspect. A visual taste of the area I live in. Enjoy.
