On Learning Spanish: A few recommendations from my own experiences

(From the archives:July 2024)

Immersive Language courses are available all across the globe, locally and internationally. Try your community college and look online for private schools. Ask on community FB pages too for others’ suggestions. I went to Guatemala and did this a couple of times (a long time ago) and it was just what I needed. I’m good at the listening but…slack on the practice.

Lingoda.com for Zoom based conversational classes, flexible schedules, decent prices.

Duolingo – crap but for a bit of vocabulary! Not that I have any issues, right? but seriously, I don’t value Duolingo but for the basics. The challenge is that if you don’t know WHY you are saying this or changing that, you can’t take this knowledge and use it. It’s a parroting effect. Not a conversational one. Just saying!

Word search apps. I use Palabras on an iphone. Listen to Spanish language music!

Podcasts such as Learn Spanish and Go with Mai and Jim are great for listening skills. You hear the couple talk at a pretty decent pace on various topics. This is one of my go-to podcasts for when I’m driving or cooking and otherwise occupied. Good stuff.

In no particular order, some of the results include us brainstorming, building a local and/or online artistic community, sharing resources, discover and enjoy mindset shifts, develop a gratitude list, build a realistic practice, expansiveness, get directions and loose goals, cultivate daily habits to keep you healthy and energized, increase your desire to keep learning and experimenting, foster more self trust, and finally you’ll understand your strengths, habits, obstacles and steps to stay en route. https://sarahleamy.com/creativity-coaching/
