Marketing Suggestions Part 2

Continuing the theme of how do we get our books out there and into people’s hands? One, rather unlikely for me but hey, idea is to do something every day. If you are the Type A personality, here is a list to play with. For the B- folks like me, pick one when so inspired.

  • Author’s events, talk to them!
  • Join and attend writing organizations in person and online
  • Maintain a supportive writer’s network
  • Collaborate with other writers
  • Collaborate with other creatives
  • Look at local, regional organizations, community colleges and universities for their events, readings, classes, workshops
  • Open Mics, look in your local calendar/papers. Read. Take physical copies of your books.
  • Find and attend bookstore events even if an hour or more away. Make it a date. Play. Enjoy.
  • Meetup online app for online and in person readings or workshops
  • Write contests in your calendar
  • Set one day a week to research or submit to contests
  • Writing conferences, do you know what’s going on in your area?
  • Invest time and money as possible, even if it’s FB, groups, business cards
  • Post on your website consistently. Look at your stats to see when is most effective.
  • Connect with readers who’ve told you how they love your work. Email with updates.
  • Keep track of what you send out and when, track the results
  • Become a reliable resource for other writers
  • Reach out to podcasts with a clear message as to why they’d like to interview you
  • Send out your work to reviewers, amateur and professionals
  • Find speaking and presentation engagements
  • Offer chapbooks like we used to with business cards!
  • Build up email lists
  • Thank writers you love, be specific
  • Share excerpts and reviews with links to purchase
  • Offer related talks and seminars
  • Ask friends for ideas as to where to do that!
  • Offer copies of your books in fundraisers
  • Libraries, events and readings
  • Work on your PR and media kit, what is your message, motivation, relevance?
  • Always have physical copies with you
  • Make stickers to hand out as readings and events
  • Thank events, bookstores, promoters etc online
  • Zoom calls with your supporters and readers
  • Link your website or store to your emails and online posts

Anything else you can think of? I’ll keep adding to this series. Good luck! Keep going…
